Announcing Arab Film Nights, Friday May 24th to Sunday May 26th, Festival Hall Calgary
The Society's second event to date, Arab Film Nights, will be held at Festival Hall in Inglewood, 1215 10 Ave SE.
The Films, listed below, are shot and/or produced in Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine and Egypt.
Friday May 24 6:30 PM: Free Men An amazingly true and heroic story about the Muslim Resistance in occupied France.
Friday May 24 9:30 PM: Where Do We Go Now? By acclaimed director Nadine Lebaki. The film is the winner of the 2011 Cadillac People’s Choice award at the Toronto International Film.
Saturday May 25 6:30 PM: Late December, an award winning coming of age movie with a strong heroine, set in small town Tunisia;
Saturday May 25 9:30 PM – Double Feature: Another Night on Earth, a film about the Egyptian Revolution. It is the 2013 Goya Award winner and the (Spain) and 2013 Leipzig Film Critics Award winner. Our second film is Words of Witness by Egyptian-American Film director, Mai Iskander. This film follows the challenges of a true to life heroine, Heby Afify, who as a young female journalist covers the Egyptian Revolution. It has won many awards on the festival circuit.
Sunday May 26 6:30 PM: The Virgin the Copts and Me, an amusing yet sincere movie about faith and believing in a Muslim and Coptic Egyptian setting.
Sunday May 26 9:30 PM: The War Around US, a gripping film that chronicles the experience of the only two foreign journalists who covered the entire Gaza War.
General Admission: $25.00/night per person
Weekend Pass: $60.00/night per person
Ticket prices include refreshments & hors d’oeuvres at intermission.
Recently established, the Calgary Arab Art & Culture Society is a not-for-profit society made up of progressive Arab-Canadian professionals & business people. The Society’s goal is to show Calgarians a more realistic side to life in the Arab world. The Society’s social events include comedy nights, films and distinguished Speakers.
